…but not to be expected! Are you surprised? We sure were back when we discovered that technically, it’s socially acceptable to attend a wedding without buying a wedding gift for the happy couple. While everyone expects that wedding gifts will change hands when two people are getting married, many is the unhappy bride who pokes through her guest list after the big day only to find out that someone she cares about didn’t fork over a wedding gift. That said, we don’t know anyone who goes to a wedding without buying a wedding gift off the couple’s registry in advance of the event, bringing a wedding gift to the reception, or sending something nice to the couple after the fact. Giving wedding gifts is just a nice thing to do, but one can fail to do so without breaking any etiquette rules. P.S. – we’d like to take this time to remind couples that they should never, ever expect their guests to cover the “cost of a plate.” It just does NOT work that way!
