It would be wonderful if every tiny detail of every wedding ever unfolded perfectly, but that’s just not realistic. We know from experience that the perfect wedding simply does not exist. Sure, whatever goes wrong might be so small a thing that the only person who notices is the bride herself, but something still went wrong. Sometimes what goes wrong is no one’s fault. Sometimes what goes wrong is the fault of the bride and groom. And sometimes, the thing that goes wrong is the fault of one of the bride and groom’s wedding vendors.

TeamWED loves wedding vendors, so we want to make it clear that we’re not suggesting that all wedding vendors are lazy or incompetent. Most wedding vendors love their jobs and consequently do wonderful work! But occasionally a wedding vendor will make a mistake. And even less frequently, a bride and groom will accidentally pick a wedding vendor who just isn’t that dedicated to his or her job.
So what can a bride and groom do when they’re confronted with a wedding vendor who isn’t living up to his or her reputation? We’ve compiled a handy wedding vendor troubleshooting list that can help brides and grooms deal with wedding vendor related issues that come up while wedding planning and on the wedding day.
Issue: Your wedding vendor can’t be reached in advance of the wedding day.
Make sure you have all the contact information for your wedding vendor (cell number, office number, email address, etc.) and try them all, especially if the information you need to convey is something important like a final headcount. Leave messages and keep track of when and how you were in touch so you have a paper trail in the event that you have to file a dispute of credit card charges.
Issue: You’ve booked a wedding vendor and have now heard a terrible review of their past work.
Look for other reviews before jumping to conclusions. It may be that only one bride out of one hundred was dissatisfied. If you haven’t already, ask the wedding vendor in question for referrals you can call who will speak to you about their experiences with that vendor. One bad review shouldn’t be damning, but don’t discount it, either. Do some more research, then decide for yourself whether you trust the vendor.
Issue: Your wedding vendor seems sketchy or refuses to answer your questions or provide you with a vendor contract.
If you haven’t already signed a contract, walk away and find a new wedding vendor. As much as it will suck to have to find a new wedding photographer or caterer, it will suck way worse to find yourself without a vendor on your wedding day. In the event you’ve already signed a contract and put down a deposit, it’s up to you to evaluate whether you can cope with your wedding vendor’s sketchy behavior. No? Then you’ll have to eat the deposit.
Issue: Your wedding vendor doesn’t deliver what he or she promised on your wedding day.
Hopefully you and your vendor both signed a comprehensive wedding vendor contract that outlines what was to be provided and how much it would all cost. If your wedding vendor doesn’t come through, then you have a couple of options open to you. The first is confronting the vendor directly, specifically stating that your contract says X, Y, and Z will be provided, and asking for some or all of your money back. The second is asking your credit card to put a stop payment on the charge… note that this is why you always, always, always pay wedding vendors with a credit card.
Issue: Your wedding vendor asks for additional money for goods or services after your wedding.
And we’re back to that wedding vendor contract! If you agreed ahead of time that your vendor could charge extra fees depending on the services provided, then you’re on the hook for the charges. But if your wedding vendor contract didn’t include anything about extra fees, dispute any charges presented to you after the fact.

Wedding Contract Advice from The Wedding Professor
Known across the matrimonial world as The Wedding Professor, Richard Cadieux has been a certified wedding consultant since 2002 and has lent his expertise at more than 500 weddings. Most brides-to-be have little to no experience negotiating contracts, which means much of what is promised to them by wedding vendors never gets put into writing. Consequently, those brides-to-be risk not only being taken advantage of, but also being left without any legal recourse. But The Wedding Professor’s new eBook changes all that and puts the power of negotiation into the hands of brides and grooms, who are the customer and who, in most cases, are making quite significant investments. If you’re a bride or groom looking for wedding contract advice, and think it’s a smart idea to protect yourself and your money, visit his blog today.
